<*> CDStore Version 1.6 <*>
by John Lullie
Copyright 1990
CDStore was designed to help keep track of all the Compact Disks
you own. It may be worth the effort if you belong to a CD Club
or if you have so many CDs that you're not sure any more what
you have. This application was written in `CanDo' - A GREAT
development tool from Inovatronics.
CDStore is the sequel to `VideoStore' which will keep track of
your Movie/Video library. The user interface is about the same
but VideoStore is dedicated to Movies and Videos tapes.
--------------------------------------------------------------
CDStore is ShareWare! You may upload it anywhere you choose
provided that you please keep all the files together.
If you decide to use CDStore - PLEASE send a ShareWare
fee of $10. In return, I'll send you the upgrade for CDStore,
a copy of VideoStore and a Laser printed Users Guide for both!
Please send to:

Thanks!
--------------------------------------------------------------
This program was written entirely in `CanDo' from Inovatronics.
A Fantastic piece of software and an invaluable development tool!
My thanks go out to everyone at Inovatronics for making Amiga
programming fun!!
If you've downloaded CDStore from a BBS or National Network, the
archive should contain ALL of the following files:
CDStore1.6 - The main program. May be placed anywhere in
your system.
CDStore1.6.info - The Icon for CDStore. Double click to load the
program.
CD-RECORD - The data-file. Your CD information will be stored
here. The Installer will put this file into your
`SYS:S/' directory (Must be there to work)
CDStore.DOC - The file you are reading now.
DeckRunner - Default tool to run CDStore. The Installer will put
this file in your 'SYS:C/' directory.
CDStore.Install - CDStore Installer program. This will automate the
installation.
If you are missing any of these files, you can contact me on
`American People Link' and I will upload the needed file(s)
for you.

If you don't like to read DOC files, you can skip ahead to the
"QuickStart" section, use the references and browse through the
program. The "Getting Started" section below is a tutorial. It
is much more descriptive of the features in CDStore and will
quickly walk you through all of the functions.
*---------------------------*
GETTING STARTED (TUTORIAL):
*===========================*
Once you have decompressed the archive, double-click on the
`CDStore.Install' icon. The Installer will copy the needed files
to their proper places. `CDStore' will run from anywhere so you can
copy it to any place you like by either dragging it into a directory
using the mouse or by copying it with a utility program.
When you are ready to start, double-click the `CDStore' icon
to start the program. You are presented with the CDStore screen.
This screen has all the tools needed to add, edit, trash, print,
count and search CDs (record entries).
---------------------------------
THE LIST WINDOW AND MODE BUTTONS:
=================================
On the left half of the screen you'll see the `List Window'.
This window holds the entire record of all the current CDs
stored. These records are stored in a file called `CD-RECORD'
that resides in your 'SYS:S/' directory.
The two Mode buttons (above the List Window:
Titles & Artists) tells CDStore to display the `Titles'
or `Artists' of the stored CDs. Titles for instance would be
"Abbey Road" and Artist(s) would be "The Beatles".
The default entry "Abbey Road" has already been entered and
is displayed for you. Click on the `Artists' button to see
the Artists listed in the window ("The Beatles" in this case).
Click the `Titles' button to bring the title "Abbey Road" back
to the List Window. Now click once on the Title "Abbey Road"
in the List Window - you will see both the Title and Artist
displayed in the two fields alongside the List Window. Also,
you may have noticed that each time you click on either button
(Titles or Artists) the Status Box (located on the right of
the screen) tells you what is happening. This Status Box displays
different information depending the mode of operation; Adding,
Editing, Searching etc. It will also display a requester when
you try to trash (delete) a record, continuing or canceling
searches.
----------------
Adding a new CD:
================
QUICK NOTE ABOUT RECORD FILING:
The entries you type in are written directly to the file
"S:CD-RECORD" AFTER pressing return in the second field
called "Artist". Therefore, there is no menu option or
button for saving the file, it is done automatically.
To add a new CD, click once on the `Add CD' button located
at the top of the screen. The Status Box will display "Add
a New CD...", the two fields (Title & Artists) will be cleared
and the cursor will be placed into the Title field ready for
your input.
Enter a new title for your CD and press return (for this tutorial,
entering any text will do). The cursor will be placed into the
Artists field ready again for your input.
Enter the artist of your new CD and press return.
Your new entry will be entered into the List Window and saved
to your record file.
NOTE: When `Adding' or `Editing' records you must press
[RETURN] in the `Artist' field for the new or edited records
to be accepted. After which, your new record will be displayed
in the List window and saved to your record file on disk.
--------------
TRASHING A CD:
==============
To Trash or delete a CD from the record, you need to select
a CD in the List Window, then click on the `Trash CD' button.
Select `Abbey Road' in the List Window and click the `Trash CD'
button. A file requester will pop up in the Status Box and give
you a chance to change your mind.
If you click `Cancel' - the requester will disappear and leave
`Abbey Road' untouched.
If you click `Ok' - you can say bye bye to the `Abbey Road'
entry.
-----------------------
EDITING A RECORD ENTRY:
=======================
To Edit a record, click on the `Edit CD' button and
select the entry you want to edit in the List Window.
For example, select the entry you made earlier in this tutorial.
(If you haven't added one and the List window is empty, follow
the example above under "Adding a new CD". Otherwise select any
entry.) Once a record has been selected, it will be displayed in
the Title and Artists fields ready for editing.
You may now make any changes to the entries (Title and Artists).
After you've made the change, press return and the cursor
will be put in to the Artists field. You can edit the entry in this
field also or just press return.
NOTE: Your changes will be entered AFTER you have pressed the
return key in the Artists field. If you do not wish to edit
anything in the Artist field, simply press return.
-----------------------
SEARCHING FOR AN ENTRY:
=======================
Clicking on the `Search' button will put the cursor into
the Title field and await your input. Type in either
the Title name or Artist(s) name that you want to find
and press return. The search will begin and stop at the
first instance that matches what you've entered. If the
text you entered WAS found - you'll be prompted by a
requester to continue the search for the next match or
cancel the search all together.
You don't have to enter the entire name for the search
to be effective, nor is it case-sensitive. For example,
If we were looking for "Star Wars" - we could simply type
"star" (without the quotes of course) and CDStore
would stop at every record that contained the letters
"star". (i.e. - "Star Trek", "Star Wars", "Starbuck",
"Shining Star" and so forth). The more characters you
type in - the more narrow the search is.
The search applies to either field and does not matter
which field you type in your search text. Searching applies
to Artists as well as Titles.
----------------
SORTING RECORDS:
================
Clicking on the `Sort' button will sort your records in
alphabetical order by title and then refresh the List window.
-----------------
PRINTING RECORDS: (New to Version 1.6)
=================
Clicking on the `Print' button will open the Print/
Page-Setup window. You will see two Format Icons at
the top of this window as well as Line Space options'.
You will also see a Preview window below that displays
your current records in the format selected.
To the left and right (upper half) of the screen are two more
buttons - `Print' and `Exit':
-Format Icons:
-------------
These icons control the print format of your records.
* The first icon will print each record on a single line.
* The second icon will print each record on two lines.
The formats are as follows:
1-Line "Title, Artist(s).name"
2-Lines "Title,
Artist(s).name"
Simply click once on one of the icons and the Preview
window will display the change accordingly.
-Record Line Spacing (On/Off):
-----------------------------
Just below the Format icons you'll see the ` Record Line Space'
options (On/Off):
`On' - will insert a blank line between each record for
a more legible printout.
`Off' - will remove blank lines if they are there and the
printout will have NO blank lines between records.
-`Print' Button: (In the Page-Setup window):
---------------
(Make sure your printer is on and ready.) This button will
print the records to your printer using the format options
you've selected.
-`Exit' Button:
--------------
This button will exit the Print/Page-Setup and return you
to CDStore's main window.

CDSrore MENUS, SCREEN-OBJECTS AND BUTTONS:
=============================================
Menus:
`About' - Shows program version and other info.
`Quit' - Exits CDStore.
`Edit'
`Undo Trash' - Undeletes the last deleted record.
Whenever an entry is deleted, it is copied to a buffer
and held there until another entry is deleted.
`Sort' - Sorts Records
Selecting `Sort' in the Edit menu will sort your records in
alphabetical order by Title and update the List window.
`Clear Fields' - (New to Version 1.6)
Clears the Title and Artist fields. This will not delete
any records but simply clear anything currently the
fields.
`Refresh List' - Strips blank record entries.
(New to Version 1.6)
Strips blank entries from the file `CD-RECORD' and
reloads the file. If you enter a blank record, CDStore
will see it and stop feeding the stored entries into
the List window. This does not mean that the data is
lost - only that there is a blank entry in your record.
Selecting `Refresh List' will correct the file and
feed ALL of your entries back into the window.
I'm certain I've eliminated the possibility of blank lines
occuring again but the Refresh option is there if you ever
need it. (`Refresh List' is temporary and will be built in
and automatic in the next release).
